Internship Program

The Earthwatch Australia Internships Program has three intakes per year. Due to high demand, Earthwatch Australia does not accept application outside the specified periods.

Once applications for each intake period are open, you will see placement options below.

Intake 1 (March - June) - Applications will open January 2024

Intake 2 (July - October) - Applications are open! All opportunities listed below. Closing date is 18 June.

Intake 3 (November - February) - Applications will open September 2023

Each internship is for a 12-week period and the minimum commitment is 80 hours.

About working with Earthwatch

Earthwatch is an independent scientific research and conservation charity which aims to create a society that lives in balance with nature. We believe strongly in the power of connecting people to nature to inspire Environmental action for net positive impact on our environment. We think globally and act locally, tackling the biggest environmental issues including biodiversity loss, climate change and recognition and protection of some of our most important ecosystems.

As an Earthwatch intern you will work with our team to help deliver real citizen science programs and disseminate scientific understanding. You will gain hands on experience, develop skills and understanding in your field, broaden your networks and have real-world exposure to citizen science in action. Being accepted as an Earthwatch Intern means you will commit to our values and our mission to empower people to save the natural world.

Eligibility

We are based in Melbourne, but our internships are open to applicants from across Australia and internationally. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, you will mainly be working from home and will need to supply your own computer and have internet connectivity. Please note that Earthwatch cannot facilitate visa applications or relocation.

Video Editing Internship 

The Earthwatch Education team is looking for a motivated, creative, and personable intern to assist in video editing to contribute to the Swarovski Waterschool Australia program.

Spatial Data Communication Internship (Wetlands) 

As our Wetlands team is growing and achieving increased national recognition, we’re seeking a skilled science communications intern with an interest mangrove and tidal wetland ecology, community mangrove conservation and management, to produce visually appealing and accessible data outputs.

Policy Internship

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic intern to assist in the updating of Earthwatch internal policies.

Graphic Design Internship

The Earthwatch Education team is looking for a talented and creative intern to assist in graphic design work on workshop modules, lesson plans and partnership proposals.

 

Data Analysis and Communication Internship

We’re seeking a skilled data analyst with an interest in ecology including mangrove and tidal wetland ecology, and/or botany to produce visually appealing and accessible data outputs. 

Content Editor - Health, Safety, Environment and Community Documentation 

This internship will be focussed on the re-issue of Earthwatch internal HSEC (Health, Safety, Environment & Community) documentation, media and other collateral such as training materials reflective of Earthwatch’s positive safety culture and industry good practice guidelines.

Community Engagement Coordination Internship

We’re seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to help train and support the community of ClimateWatch Trail managers and volunteers.
