Digital Media & Communications Internship

Position: Digital Media & Communications Internship
Department: Programs - Biodiversity and Climate Team
Reporting to: Jesse Holden, Biodiversity Coordinator
Hours: Minimum 80 hours
Timeline: March 2024 – Jun 2024, 1-2 days per week

(Hours are flexible, however interns must be available during working hours for communication with team)

Virtual OnBoarding will take place on Thursday 21 March 11:00am-12:30pm

Earthwatch Australia brings people, science and nature together to create transformational experiences that create long term positive behaviour change towards the environment.

Running since 2010, our Bush Blitz program is Australias largest nature discovery program, sending expedition teams of scientists across the country. We visit un- and under-surveyed areas of environmental significance to establish a National Biodiversity Record, contributing to our understanding of the Australian taxa. We are looking for an intern with a background in visual media and a passion for science and biodiversity to join the team, to assist in developing a digital brand identity and assist in the development of a visual media plan for the program.


  • Assess existing Bush Blitz AV engagement and communications materials held, and;

  • Evaluate how other organisations within the science, biodiversity and environmental industry utilise their material;

  • Assist in the creation of a Bush Blitz digital media plan;

  • Video editing and AV output design.

Skills required:

  • Experience in media and communications (analysis, assessment and design)

  • Experience in, and passion for AV content creation

  • Familiar with environmentalism and science communication

  • Skilled in social media and online content creation

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and Canva

  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organisational skills & ability to work to deadlines

  • High level of creativity and engagement

This is an unpaid position, however we are dedicated to providing a positive internship experience and will provide support, mentoring & upskilling, as required, for the right candidate.
