Social Media Intern

Department: Marketing and Communications Team

Hours: Minimum 80 hours

Timeline: July-Oct 2025, 1-2 days per week

(Hours are flexible, however interns must be available during working hours for communication with team)

OnBoarding will take place on 15 July 2025

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Social Media Intern to help transfer and localise social media content from the Earthwatch US office to the Earthwatch Australia office. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for environmental conservation, strong writing skills, and an understanding of social media strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Adapt and transfer social media posts and content from Earthwatch US to Earthwatch Australia platforms, ensuring alignment with the Australian market.

  • Modify language, tone, and messaging to suit an Australian audience while maintaining Earthwatch’s brand voice.

  • Update calls to action (CTAs) and links to direct traffic to the Australian Earthwatch website.

  • Adjust content to align with local cultural references, conservation priorities, and audience interests.

  • Assist in coordinating the social media calendar to ensure timely posting of content for Australian market.

  • Monitor engagement and suggest ways to optimize content for Australian followers.

  • Collaborate with the Earthwatch Australia team to ensure content aligns with ongoing campaigns and priorities.

  • Identify online channels for product promotion (such as active community groups, over 55 living etc)

 

Skills required:

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, etc.) and content strategies.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and language for different audiences.

  • Familiarity with Australian environmental issues, conservation topics, and nonprofit communications is a plus.

  • Experience using scheduling tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Buffer, Hootsuite) is desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Passion for sustainability and conservation.
