BHP

Since 2009, Earthwatch has worked with BHP, the Australian Government through Parks Australia and the Australian Biological Resources Study to deliver Australia’s largest nature discovery project, involving specialist taxonomists, indigenous communities, rangers and landowners, teachers, students and BHP employees.

Bush Blitz aims to document Australia’s biodiversity, as understanding biodiversity is fundamental to conserving it. The program also connects communities, landowners, teachers, students, BHP employees and indigenous communities; creating motivation and education for protecting our biodiversity. To date, this program has held 40 expeditions, facilitated 1,798 species discoveries, and helped to add over 64,000 individual records to public databases.

BHP is a resources company, supplying copper, iron ore, nickel, potash, met coal and more globally. BHP aims to deliver benefits to the environment and communities by improving natural resources management and supporting biodiversity efforts. BHP employees also participate in the hands-on experiences with Earthwatch, via the Bush Blitz Program.
