Bek Armishaw

Day 4 | Bek Armishaw | Aspiri Primary School

Today the scientists joined forces with the Tjaltjraak (dal-u-rak) Rangers to navigate through the bush to Lake Bullunup. We had Dr Michael Hammer, Ana Hara, Jenelle Ritchie and Michael Kluzinger looking for fish, mussels, crustacea, worms and snails. We had seven members from the Tjaltjraak Rangers, Terrance was our leader and made sure we made it to and from Lake Bullunup safely. It was a hard trek to get to the lake but the data gathered was important. We found some Aboriginal artifacts along the way, Jennelle spotted the small pieces of chert that had been flaked to make tools.

Michael Hammer taught Jennelle from the Tjaltjraak Rangers how to check the water parameters, set fish traps and how to net. We found a few different species of fish living in the water and some small snails, isopods and worms. We took what we needed back to base camp before enjoying dinner together.
