In September 2018, Julie and her friends joined a life-changing Earthwatch expedition on Andros Island, Bahamas, tracking turtles in their natural habitat.
It was Julie's first time joining an Earthwatch expedition, and she described the experience as "amazing, fun, while helping science!", especially being surrounded by the beauty of the Bahamas while contributing to meaningful conservation research. They participated in every single step throughout the research, from boat trips to hands-on fieldwork, catching, weighing, and caring for turtles; they immersed themselves in the scientific investigation.
Julie says she felt completely safe and comfortable during the outdoor activities, and strongly recommends Earthwatch expeditions for first-time solo travellers and solo female travellers. The team’s support and the well-organised setup helped her focus on learning and enjoying every moment.
Immersed in the natural beauty of the Bahamas, the trip deepened Julie’s environmental awareness and her role in protecting it.
